An apple a day keeps the doctor away

Una mela al giorno toglie il medico di torno.
(An apple a day keeps the doctor away)

The apples of Trentino

The Trentino region is one of Europe's most important for the production of quality apples, despite the cultivable area is reduced to the valley floor and some plateaus. The cultivation, quality control and marketing of apples are grown by small farmers of Trentino, entrusted to a group of cooperatives and consortiums, including "la Trentina" and "Melinda", the most well-known brands.

Among the varieties we find the most grown are: Golden Delicious, Stark Delicious, Granny Smith, Royal Gala, Winesap, Morgenduft, Fuji and Braeburn, but also the most traditional the Renetta and Canada.

Almost all of the crop is based on the techniques of organic farming, biodynamic or, for the most part, integrated. The latter is finalized to the drastic reduction of the chemical treatments and the replacement of these with natural biological rhythms, in order to provide a production more genuine as possible that, at the same time, protects and respects the environment, and that is the true heritage be preserved in the interest of both producers and consumers.

The typical Trentina kitchen uses apples for some sweets such as the famous apple strudel and smorn, a sweet omelette made from apples, eggs, flour and sugar.
